You should have received the email below regarding the upcoming 86th Otosclerosis Study Group Meeting. As in the past, we have subsidized the banquet so that your cost will be $100. Please register for the meeting and indicate how many individuals will be attending. The executive committee would like to encourage you and your fellows to submit a case study for our Doc's Discussion.
Liz Toh, our president, has finalized the scientific program for our upcoming meeting. Dr. Jack Lane and Dr. Matt Carlson (both from Mayo Clinic), will be presenting "Photon Counting CT: Its Role in Evaluation of Otosclerosis and Other Middle Ear Pathologies". In addition, we will have our Doc's Discussion competition.
Lastly, if you have any colleagues who you feel would be suitable for membership, please have them fill out an application and obtain two letters of recommendation from OSG members.
Hopefully this year, Wild Apricot will not be sending out multiple dues notices. If you do have an issue, do not hestitate to contact me at mcelveen.us@gmail.com. Make sure when you fill out the registration that you pay $100 for yourself and $100 for each additional guest. Also, if anyone is transitioning to senior status, please let me know so you will not be charged dues.
All the best,
John
The venue for the 86th OSG meeting in South Beach, Florida has been selected. Unbeknownst to me, I squeezed in the site visit during Spring Break. My Speedo bathing suit fit right in. It was truly an eye-opening experience. Despite the distractions, I was able to lock-in the Villa Azur restaurant for our meeting. This is an incredible French/Mediterranean restaurant that can accommodate up to 250 people, which may be necessary based on the 220 individuals who attended last year’s meeting in Nashville.
I sincerely want to thank everyone who volunteered to sponsor a neurotology fellow last year. The fellows I talked to really appreciated it. After discussing this with our president, Liz Toh, we have decided to do this again. Those OSG members who live in the Miami area know just how expensive things are. To off-set the costs, we will have had to increase the meal cost to $100/person this year. (The actual cost would be $225/person.) If you are interested in sponsoring a fellow, please let me know. If you are sponsoring a specific fellow, please submit their name and contact information.
If you have colleagues that you think would be suitable for membership in our organization, please have them complete an application and a letter of recommendation from two members of the OSG to support their application. This needs to be completed and submitted before August.
I have had numerous inquiries regarding the OSG History of Stapes Surgery mugs. If you are interested in donating $30 to the OSG, the OSG will be glad to present you with a mug. The shipping costs are substantial, so if you want to obtain a mug at the OSG meeting and avoid shipping costs, let me know and I will bring them to the meeting. This year’s mugs feature the magnificent 7 of Stapes surgery; Kessel, Toynbee, Politzer, Sourdille, Lempert, Rosen and Shea. Yes, they each have a QR code that highlights their contributions. Please click this link for a preview of this updated mug.
Liz Toh is putting together an outstanding scientific program to complement the OSG’s Doc’s Discussion. If you have an interesting case with good video documentation, please consider submitting it for consideration. Remember, the OSG will award a $100 Visa card to the winner, and I am sure George Wanna will sweeten the deal.
Lastly, don’t forget, this year’s meeting will take place on Friday night and not Saturday night. Kristin has been kind enough to allow us to set up a registration table at the ANS meeting site. This will avoid long lines. Try to get to the venue by 5:30PM. Hor d’oeuvres and wine will be served prior to the business meeting and scientific session. We look forward to seeing everyone in South Beach.
All the best,
John
